On December 1, the 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum with the theme of "Science and Technology Leading the Future" and the theme of "Science and Green Development" opened in Tengchong Science Hall. Top scientists, university presidents, well-known entrepreneurs, and representatives of the financial community at home and abroad gathered in Tengchong to conduct extensive exchanges focusing on scientific and technological innovation, higher education, sustainable development of enterprises, and international cutting-edge science.

The 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum is co-sponsored by the People's Government of Yunnan Province and the China Association for Science and Technology, supported by Tsinghua University, Peking University and Nankai University, and co-organized by the Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan Province, the Yunnan Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the People's Government of Baoshan City, and the New Technology Development Center of the China Association for Science and Technology.

In accordance with the "1+10+X" model, the three-day forum will organize one opening ceremony and keynote forum, and set up 10 parallel sub-forums, including the President Forum, the Young Scientist Forum, the Industrial Innovation and Development Forum, the Entrepreneur Innovation Forum, the Lancang-Mekong Regional Science, Technology and Humanities Exchange Forum, the International Frontier Science Forum, the Biodiversity and Modern Agricultural Development Forum, the Energy Materials Forum, the Immunology Technology and Clinical Transformation Forum, and the First National Medical Science and Technology and Industry Development Forum. As well as a series of special activities such as the Seminar on the Innovation and Development of Science and Technology Finance, the Series of Activities on the Deep Integration and Development of Science and Technology Enabling Media, the Series of Activities on the Innovation and Development of the Big Health Industry, the 2023 Sino-US "Health Bridge" Series of Activities, the China-South Korea Science and Technology Exchange Activities, the Docking of Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements and Transformation and Application, the Academician Science Popularization into the Campus, and the Digital Silk Road Security Seminar.

At the opening ceremony, the first "Tengchong Science Award", which has attracted much attention from the scientific and technological circles at home and abroad, was officially announced, and Professor Lu Deming of the University of Chinese of Hong Kong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and known as the "father of non-invasive prenatal examination", and Zhang Feng, a Chinese-American scientist and one of the internationally recognized pioneers of CRISPR-Cas gene editing technology, and a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, won the award. The award is the first science and technology award set up by a social force completely initiated in Chinese mainland, selected at home and abroad, with a single prize of 10 million yuan, and the first social force directly named after a border city in China to set up a science and technology award.

The 2023 Tengchong Scientists Forum pays more attention to international perspective, and pays more attention to integrating national needs and serving local development. This year's forum will continue to hold the "International Frontier Science" and "Lancang-Mekong Regional Science, Technology and People-to-People Exchange" forums, striving to create a model of science, technology and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region, and promote neighboring countries to jointly explore the path of sustainable development. Closely combined with the "3815" strategic development goals of Yunnan Province, a number of thematic forums and series of activities have been set up around the fields of life science and health, biodiversity, and modern agriculture to serve the major scientific and technological needs of key industries and key fields.

At the opening ceremony, the signing of talent introduction projects and investment promotion projects was also held. Up to now, the Tengchong Scientists Forum has contributed to more than 90 talent introduction projects in Yunnan Province, introduced more than 200 talents, and promoted more than 100 investment projects, with a total investment of more than 62 billion yuan, covering key industries such as digital economy, biomedicine, advanced equipment manufacturing, modern logistics, food and consumer goods processing and manufacturing.
